Black History Month 2021

October is Black History Month – a month dedicated to celebrating Black history and culture. During this month, organisations and individuals work together to remember and acknowledge the huge contributions and achievements of Black people in Britain in all sectors.

Bradford is celebrating in style this year, with the usual flag raising in Centenary Square and an exciting launch event with live music and community stalls in City Hall. This launch will take place on Saturday 2nd October. The flag will be raised at 11:30, and the launch at 12-2pm. Please see the poster below for more info.

The launch event will include information stalls from Race Equality Network, Telgra Community, Bradford African Community, and Bradford 2025. We can confirm there will be live music from Musumba, Moses Ekebuisi, Selah Sounds and Gerard Musgrave. Refreshments will be provided.

We would like thank Bradford Council for funding the Black History Month launch event through the Arts, Culture and Heritage Grant.

The fantastic programme of events have been put together by a collaboration of organisations, including Black Health Forum, Windrush Generations, African Caribbean Achievement Project (ACAP), Telgra Community, Dominica Association, Nigerian Community Association Bradford (NCAB), Bradford African Community, Diabetes UK and Race Equality Network.

Please see below the complete programme of events for Black History Month, spanning the entirety of October. You can download the PDF of the programme using the button underneath.

As stated in the programme, this year’s Black History Month is also a time for continued action to tackle racism, reclaim Black history and ensure Black history and culture is represented equally all year round.

Race Equality Network recently launched the Root Out Racism Campaign in collaboration with West Yorkshire and Harrogate Health and Care Partnership and Bradford Council. You can read more about this campaign here or visit our stall at the launch event on the 2nd October.

We hope you have a fantastic Black History Month and please share your thoughts on the events on social media by tagging @network_race (Race Equality Network) and @BhfBradford (Black Health Forum) on Twitter!
